The New School Year! 2015-2016

Debany:
We looked over My Tech High's programs for this year!

Language Arts -- I finished reading Harry Potter! I watched the movies to see how they followed the books.
Math -- We had a few lessons on math. I also did my flashcards to help me get faster.  I look forward to getting Timez Attack again.
Science/History -- We had a lesson on reptiles. Afterwards, we went to the library and the Bean Museum at BYU to learn about reptiles. We want to have them bring one of their shows to our neighborhood.
Podcasting/Tech -- I had an overview lesson about the microphone and some podcasting programs.
Hip Hop Dance -- This week I had my first class! We learned a dance for the Payson Onion Days parade.

Myanna:
Language Arts -- I finished reading the BFG! I loved it.
Math -- We had a few lessons on math. I went over my flashcards, too.
Science/History -- We had a lesson on reptiles. We will be making reports! I want to do mine on the Komodo Dragon. We went to the library, but someone had checked out ALL the books on Komodo Dragons! The librarian told us about the world book encyclopedias online. Librarians are so helpful.
Digital Art -- I have been working on my drawing.  I got a couple anime drawing books from the library.
Tumbling -- I had my first class this week.  It was kind of hard.  I didn't understand exactly what they wanted. BUT, I'm being evaluated right now. Hopefully it will get better.

Porter:
Language Arts -- I had some lessons on Reading and Spelling this week.  We also went over the My Tech High classes.
Math -- I had a few lessons on math. I also did flashcards. When will we get Times Attack again?
Science/History -- We went to the museum at BYU to see some real reptiles, but the exhibit was closed. They brought out some stuffed reptiles and shells.  It was pretty cool Did you know that a sea turtle's shell is its backbone/spine?
Rocketry -- We looked over the year's requirements for rocketry. We also looked through the supplies to make sure that we had everything we needed.
Adaptive Swimming -- We are trying to figure out still what is available for swimming. It looks like I'll be going to Provo for their adaptive/high-functioning class.

#38 Week of May 18-22

This week... has been AWESOME!  

It's been a week of field trips...

We went to the Aquarium again - but got to do a WHOLE lot more than last time. 

We went to the Gardens at Thanksgiving Point!

And while we were there, we fed the koi fish, and found a frog and turtle!

  (zoology in the gardens!)

We stopped at the glass blowing and stained glass workshops at Thanksgiving Point as well.

We saw stained glass that is being formed here in Utah that will be going into a new LDS Temple in Japan (Sapporo!). Satomi thought it was cool - even though she is not Mormon.

We went to the Dinosaur Museum at Thanksgiving Point as well.

They just got a big piece of plaster delivered with tons of fossils in it!

Lots of people were posing and taking pictures! We'll have to look for it in the news.

It was pretty cool to think about zoology in ancient times.

While at the aquarium, we learned that the lion fish is invasive!

Sometimes pretty can be dangerous.

 We got to walk through the shark tank tunnel, too!

We took a field trip to the Airport!

It was time to take Satomi home, but we got to come and see what it was like to sign in, turn in luggage and watch Satomi go through security.

Myanna's tooth was hurting, so she went into the Dentist's to check to make sure it wasn't infected (aka abscessed). 

It is so cool how they can take pictures of teeth by x-ray!

(They pulled my tooth. It wasn't infected. Just the tooth underneath was coming in and the top tooth didn't want to come out easily.)

Friday, we had a Field Day with other homeschoolers!

Games and treats before it rained!

Our baby kits are growing up!

They are starting to eat real food.

 and even though they still drink the momma's milk...

 they drink from the water bottles too!

 We have A LOT of fun taming the rabbits so that if anyone wants a bunny, they're used to people already.

We know that Memorial Day is after school, but we had fun learning things while we were there too.

The firetrucks blew their sirens to wake up people to come to the Fireman's breakfast. So we went!

We talked with the firemen and police - and got to climb all over the firetrucks!

 Then we went to a memorial program at the Santaquin Cemetery!

 We met and shook hands with several veterans.

They talked about some of the things they went through during the wars of history.

We look forward to learning more about them in history.

And we know who we can talk to about them when we do!

 We went to the spot where we found the headstone for a baby during the cemetery clean up.

Someone put flowers on it!

And to think... they wouldn't have been able to if we hadn't found it!

#37 Week of May 11-15

One night, during a big rainstorm and lots of wind, our kits got wet!

We had to make them new boxes and bring them in the house to help them dry off naturally. 

Our family participated in a cemetery clean-up before Memorial day.

Thankfully, it didn't rain until we were done! 

We weren't sure for a while...

While checking on our kits, we found that one was a runt. 

This is our runt.

A doe only has 8 nipples. Our doe, Izzy, had 10 kits. Two of them were runts; one of the runts died when they kits got wet. This one lived but it needs to have some extra mommy-time. 

So, we get out Izzy and this little runt and give it some extra time to feed. 

(The runt looks so much like its momma!)

Monday was adventure club hiking day!

We hiked the "Y"!

This week, we had a special visitor!

Our friend, Satomi, came from Japan!

She's staying with us for a week. 

(Look at how fast our kits are growing! They're starting to jump out of the box!)

Satomi brought some pretty neat stuff from Japan.

She gave us a selfie-stick! (Which is very popular in Japan - and America!)

It helped us take pictures of all of us together.

This is a special doll from Japan that you make a wish and draw in an eye. (If you look close, you can see two white circles.)

And when it comes true, you color in the second eye.

(Japan is in Asia - which we've been studying in Geography this year.)

We also got some neat treats from Japan!

They make lots of things with rice.

Also, this week we had an art party for Myanna.

(My birthday is on the 18th.)

So, for the party we made sun catchers out of pony beads, and necklaces that we got to punch letters into washers to make them specially for us.

#36 Week of May 4-8

This week we have been doing our normal reading and math learning. 

We have been enjoying (A LOT) watching the kits grow from day to day!

Myanna has been working with clay some more - just for fun (because learning is)!

Myanna continues to practice her tumbling, but decided to up her game!

On a family walk, she decided that she wanted to start running.

And here are our kits at the end of the week.

Amazing what a week does for baby rabbits!

#35 Week of April 27-May 1

This week, Debany had a dance Hip Hop Competition.

Our dance group took third place in the beginning hip hop division of 7 studios that competed!

This is the big trophy that our studio has. We took 3rd of all 7 studios competing.

Porter continued with his swim classes.

 We raise rabbits!

Which has been fun while we learn about zoology this year.

AND... the does just had their baby kits!

This is what they look like 1-2 days after being born.

We have been continuing our reading and math learning.

We like reading the Roald Dahl books so that we can watch the movies afterwards.
