Legos - Giant Escape

My birthday is this Friday!

My grandparents and another grandma have come to visit!

I wanted to get all my assignments done so that I could spend the weekend without worrying about overdue assignments.

I got to show my grandparents how I make my Legos move!

I liked making the giant.  

It was fun! Not too difficult. Just normal.

I noticed that the base needed more weight to hold the giant sometimes.  

The arm was like a big crane!

I like cranes (the trucks... and the birds too.)

Sometimes I would make the giant go up twice and the crane would go backwards! oops!

I played with the program a little.

After a while I dangled the giant over the side of the table. 

We definitely needed more weight on the base.

(I also played with the sounds the giant made. I liked making him sleep and all kinds of other funny sounds!)

Legos - Sailboat Storm

I liked making the boat!

It was so cool how it rocked back and forth!

I didn't like the sound though. 

It wasn't fun and it was a little scary. 

So, I played with some other sounds for the boat and it turned out pretty funny!

Legos - Airplane Rescue

I liked making the airplane and its program!

I love how the propeller spins!!

Because Mom had a lot of work to help with Myanna, 

Debany was there to help out some with my project.

BUT, I'm getting really good at following the directions and putting the pieces together!

Legos - Goal Keeper

This is my Goal Keeper!

I made him!

My sister helped me keep track of my kicks - which ones made goals and others that missed.

Legos - goal kicker

'Goal Kicker' was fun!

I like how it kicked!

I programmed the legos to move.

The computer runs the program and sends it through the wire to the motor.

That is electrical energy.

When the motor turns and moves the leg and kicks the ball, 

that is called mechanical energy.

Then I guessed how far the kicker would kick the ball. 

It wasn't very far at first.

I found that a bigger ball did better.

 I even made a bull's eye! 

woohoo!!!

Legos - Cheering Fans

I made the next WeDo project!

It was called 'cheering fans'!

 It was fun to put together!

I made the program, too. I changed the program just a little to make it use the sensor when the ball went in front of it.

I even drew clothes for the fans and cut out a hole for the sensor.

Fun fun fun!

P.E. - Swim Lessons

Today, I had another swim lesson!

I worked with Blake (actually it's a girl).

She helped me to relax in the water.

I DIDN'T like laying on my back at first. 

But every time she let go, I got nervous.

At the end, I picked up rings under the water.  

I dove down deep! That was so much fun!

Next time, I will try to be better at relaxing on my back and learning to float.

I hope we dive for rings again.

I wonder which swim instructor I will have next time.

Lego's - Flying Bird

Today, I put together the "Flying Bird"!

I made the program...

...but when I raised and lowered the bird's tail, the wings didn't flap!

We problem-solved and found out that the wings were put on wrong.

So, we took them off and put them on the back where they belonged.

It was hard to tell what side was the back when the head moved so much.

I learned to pick something on the front that DOESNT move.

THEN, when we tested the tail, ONE wing flapped but the other didn't.

We looked at the Cam Gears and found the axle was in the wrong spot.

So, we fixed it, too!

Taa daaa!

It worked.

I like my Lego Robotics class!

Legos - Roaring Lion

Today, I put together the "Roaring Lion"

 I think this program was so fun!

I love it when the lion would snore!

Heeeere's my lion!

"Rooooar!  Zzzzzzz..."

Robotics: Hungry Alligator

We were on vacation while this project came due.

BUT...

Here I am! 

I was excited to make this one!

I put the legos together 

and watched videos on alligators.

Did you know that alligators have 'U' shaped snout, 

like to show off their teeth when their mouth is closed, 

eat fish and DEER (and other animals too).  Deer are big! Wow!

My lego alligator's snout is even u-shaped.

Then I plugged in my alligator to the computer and programmed it to open its mouth and close its mouth.  

First it was triggered by pressing the letter a.

Then I made it trigger by motion. 

I made fish to put in its mouth.

It totally caught me off guard the first time I put it in his mouth.  It almost got my hand!

Alligators are dangerous!  Even Lego ones.

Robotics: Dancing Birds

Hi! Porter here.

I just finished the 'Dancing Birds'

project for my robotics class.

Did you know that if you twist the 'belt' 

it makes the birds turn different directions?

But if it isn't twisted, they turn in the same direction.

And because the 'hubs' (those are the green wheels) are the same size,

they turn the same speed!

I even played with the timed motor. 

Different times made them turn different.

I really enjoyed making this project!

I can hardly wait for the next one.

I still have more basics and activity videos to do.

I got through the first 10 basics before this project.  

And I have learned so much!

I'll show that in my next post.

Robotics: Smart Spinner

Hi!  Porter again.

I have been working on the Smart Spinner!

 I was excited to watch it spin!

I tried different gears to see how they spun.

This is what I reported for how long each gear combination spun.

I couldn't believe that the last one only spun for 1 second!

That was hilarious!

To make my spinner last the longest, 

I'll make sure that the top has the small gear 

and the handle has the big gear.

I wouldn't mind trying two small gears 

and see if that makes a difference.

My Learning

I wanted to share with you some other things that I have been doing for school!

I have a word family flip book that I started reading. 

It has funny and real word combinations in it.

I practice my writing.  

I try to make my writing neat!

I practice my math facts on Timez Attack!

This is one of my favorite games. And  I learn from it too!

My sisters and I love to go to the lake!

We measure how far the water comes up every day, 

we read a story on the beach,

we use our math with adding and dividing things like treats or pine needles,

and even paddle in the paddle boat.

We have to take a trail to get to the lake.

My sisters help me when it's steep and a little slippery.

We have good teamwork.

Robotics: Drumming Monkey

Hi!  

I'm Porter and I LOVE building with Legos!

Last year, my sister, Myanna, did Engino.

She likes to work with me on my Lego projects this year.

We learn a lot about teamwork and 

work really well together because we both love it so much.

 Here is my drumming monkey - All finished!

I love watching it move!

We tried 4 different ways to put on the 'cam wheels'.

The first was opposite eachother.

It made the sound: 'Dun -- Dun --"

The second one was at an angle from the first.

It went: "-- Dun Dun --"

The third one: I took one of the double 'cams' and made the double into a set opposite from each other.

It went: "-- Dun Dun Dun"

On the fourth one, I did the same as the last one to the other double cams. 

Now the sound went: "Dun Dun Dun Dun"

Here's what I had put on paper.

 It was so neat to watch the gears turning to make the arms lift. 

I liked watching the cams lift the arms and lower them to make the arms hit my little cup.

I love Legos!
