This week, we went to Arches National Park!
We met our cousins there (they homeschool, too!)
We learned that the Balanced Rock at Arches is similar in height to the Statue of Liberty!

People named the arches and the areas by things they knew.
Park Avenue was named because it looked like the tall skyscrapers on Park Avenue!
We learned that arches don't last forever.
And sometimes you can guess where arches used to be...
We hiked A LOT!
Good thing we had our water bag backpacks!
That was so much easier than carrying a water bottle because some hikes were hard and we needed two hands.
We camped there for 4 nights!
It was so much fun to leave the top off and look at the stars at night.
We learned how to plan meals and prepare them away from our campsite as well.
One of the hardest hikes we did was up the backside of this arch and into the south eye.
But we did it!
We watched a video at the visitor's center about the arches,
but we also read lots of signs that talked more about them.
Did we mention that we hiked... A LOT?!
Our favorite hike was to Delicate Arch.
Mom and Debany are afraid of heights,
so they overcame their fears and hiked to the bottom of it!
We studied about the history of cave art at home.
We got to see some petroglyphs at Arches!
We got to see beetles and their tracks...
We saw wild rabbits, too!
It's amazing how they can have fur and live in the desert!
Here is our campsite.
We learned to place our tents in a good spot and to think ahead about where the sun would be.
The whole time we were there, we worked on our Jr. Ranger books and...
EARNED OUR BADGES!!!
